A living and constantly expanding collection, with over 400 titles including photography books, art books, exhibition catalogs, and independent publications that explore sexuality, eroticism, and pornography.

Comprising mostly rare and out-of-print works, it also brings together recent releases from Europe, the United States, and Latin America, broadening the dialogue with contemporary issues and poetics.

Origin and (Re)existence

The Vórtice Library was created from the donation of Carlos Hermano Brasil de Almeida's collection (★ Teresina, PI, 1968 - ✝︎ Recife, PE, 2016), who, for three decades, devoted himself to assembling a collection that included paintings, sculptures, photographs, postcards, magazines, and books that celebrate the male and gay universe. This collection, added to the incredible bibliography donated by other collectors and our own books, forms what is now the library.

Our library represents a significant step forward in building aesthetic sensibilities and disseminating themes that are still treated marginally within the field of arts in our country. It encourages national artistic and academic production, generating a collective impact by being an environment for research and exchange with an extraordinary set of references.
